Decorating Bedrooms For Teenage Daughters

Having a teenage daughter can be a little difficult, especially if you can’t get along with your daughter. Mark one thing off your list by finding a happy medium in her safe haven-her bedroom.

When your daughters become teenagers-and sadly, all children do-you’re faced with a new kind of dilemma. Your children become slightly more defiant and independent as they’re trying to figure out who they are and who they want to become. As a parent you want your daughter to stay young forever…and so the battle begins.

But not everything has to be a battle as your daughter transforms from your sweet little girl into a beautiful, independent young woman. How you ask? How can you avoid turning everything with your daughter into a battle that you just can’t win?

Well, you can always start with your daughter’s bedroom. As your daughter gets older, she is going to want a more sophisticated, grown up look for her bedroom. After all, your daughter’s bedroom is where she hangs out with her friends, studies, fantasizes about her wedding day and cute boys and just goes to get away from it all when she’s had a hard day. Here are some things to consider when you’re decorating your teenage daughter’s bedroom.

The first thing is to let her choose. It’s her room. It does not have to be to your taste, let it be her own.

Your daughter wants creature comforts-Some of the coolest things you can put in your daughter’s bedroom are Papasan chairs, bean bag chairs, area rugs, mp3 speaker systems, jersey knit sheets and warm lighting to make sure that she always feels at home, no matter what day or time it is, or what mood she may be in. The thing about your daughter is that she’ll want somewhere to relax and chill out after a hard day. She may want to lay in a soft bean bag chair or curl up in a Papasan chair, or she may just want to sprawl out on her favorite modern area rug that makes her feel comfortable and loved with it soft, thick pile. And don’t forget that she’ll definitely want to listen to music to clear her head.

Your daughter wants style that meets her ever changing, adult needs-Whether you like it or not, your daughter is swiftly becoming an adult. Unicorns and puppies probably aren’t going to cut it anymore as her taste changes with age and peer pressure. Your daughter wants a cool looking room. Why not give her a modern area rug that will bring out the colors you’ve painted the walls-yes, you will probably be painting the walls-and brings a cohesive feel to the room that both you and your daughter can agree on. When you’re decorating your teenage daughter’s bedroom, the worst thing you can do is try to make decisions for her. It’s very important that you give your daughter the opportunity to express her individual style in every element of the room, without letting her go overboard, of course.

Remember, teenagers are difficult enough to understand-language and attitudes-without having to add unnecessary battles to your parental task list. Give your daughter the room she needs to grow and you’ll find that everything falls into place on its own.
