Choose a color theme:
Like Tiffany blue, black and silver*, and buy latex balloons in those colors. You can buy the weights for them too, or just let the curly ribbons hang down, from the ceiling – that’s really pretty and makes a party atmosphere.

Mood lighting is important:
Get the candles that float and put them in glasses or vases on the tables in the party room.
If you can, buy a strobe light at a party supply store. Or borrow/use other novelty lighting (lava lamps, etc.) in the room (you could match the colors of your balloons to the lamps for a cohesive look), and place small bowls of nuts, peppermints, Hershey kisses, pretzels around the room too.

Create a “bar” area by putting bottles of soda, juice, sparkling water, and an ice bucket or nice bowl of ice (with tongs or a large spoon, to pick the cubes up with) on the counter or table with the drink glasses and have small plates, or bowls, with drink garnishes (maraschino cherries, sliced oranges).

You can buy plastic champagne, margarita, martini, and low-ball “glasses” at grocery or party supply stores. You can get the little umbrellas to garnish the drink glasses too. Instead of the special glasses, umbrellas would look really cute in the colored plastic Solo cups, with a colorful straw, too.

Party supply stores usually have cardboard cutouts of drinks like margaritas and daquiris for wall decor.

Nightclubs are all about drinking, dancing and socializing. If you want to cool it on the drinking vibe, you could decorate with tropical-themed cardboard cutouts instead: Parrots, tiki’s, flowers.

A more sophisticated nightclub party atmospere could have more of a Sex and the City feel to it, with Manhattan/NYC-style cutouts for the walls.
